The Sustainable Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral Project

The sustainable pastoral and agro-pastoral project is a development project funded by Norwegian Development fund and aims at upswings food security and socio-economic wellbeing of the target populations in the aspects of engaging better farming system and improved crop production and livestock management, as well as establishing and capacitating community based organizations to enhance the capacity of local partners, with the aim of delivering a positive impact on the target communities and partners as well.

Other components of this project include establishment of seed bank in Galoley village under Gabiley district which acts as serving center for restoration, storage and distribution of agricultural seeds to gradually feed Somaliland farmers.

In 2009-2015 Norwegian Development Fund funded project has supported 6696[1] households (3270 women and 3426 men) poor farmers from wada-bariis, Saylo-Galbeed settlements under Faro-weyne district of Maroodi Jeeh region, Elbahay, Lafta-Thinka, Galoley,

In 2017, the project targeted Carro-malko and Garab-cad villages of Gabiley district and improved the lives of 573 HH at different angles including strengthening food security through provision of agronomic trainings and distribution of quality seeds, improving livestock management and access of water as well as raising the Capacity at grass root for organizations (CBOs) in finance, governance and technical issues and encouragement of youth and women in involvement of small business enterprises

Strengthening sustainable pastoral and agro-pastoral economy in Somaliland project has standardized professional project packages including work plans; project beneficiary criterions, different reporting templates according to responsibility and timing. Several supervision, monitoring and evaluation missions conducted at different methods, responsibility and timing. Competent and professional staff based on field and headquarters who sustained good collaboration with community.
